I am excited to share some good news. I received an email this morning informing me that I am a finalist in the the FOTOBAMAWEEK International Photography Contest, sponsored by FotoWeek DC and the Newseum. One of my images of Barack Obama was selected by a panel of judges to be exhibited at the Newseum this summer and included in a limited edition book later this year. I am not driven by contests but have to admit that I am proud of this one. You can read the original post about this photo here.
I have been a member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association for a number of years now. They accept about ten percent of applicants which makes for very competitive photo contests and I am excited to have made the cut in the most recent one. The category I placed in is Full Frame (Black and White) and is described as, “Full frame, edge to edge, straight from the camera, no cropping, and ONLY in black and white (conversion to B&W is allowed).”
Here is a selection of pictures from a fun lifestyle portrait session in Cleveland Park for six-month-old Alexa, her big brother Drew as well as parents Kathleen and Doug. My focus with lifestyle portraits is to capture intimate moments that are not staged.
