I’ve had a chance to photograph engagement sessions with couples all over the city. But every once in a while it’s fun to stumble upon a hidden gem. Julie and Jon have an affinity for Capitol Hill and really wanted to visit the Navy Yard. So off we went on a little adventure.
On Sunday I was fortunate to catch up with Ashley and Mike to spend some with them in Rock Creek Park. They met about a year ago in a yoga class that Mike was teaching and have been together ever since.
The perennial bloom of Japanese cherry trees in Washington, DC means two things come late March or early April - cotton candy plumes of pink cherry blossoms and a bonanza of visitors to the Tidal Basin and Potomac waterfront.

I spent some time today with Vanessa and Joe around Capitol Hill and the National Mall capturing engagement portraits. They were pretty much laughing and smiling the whole time which was fantastic.
Jay is an unobtrusive documentarian, who insists that the best pictures happen when events unfold naturally. As an individual, Jay is pretty laid back, a demeanor that’s ideal for weddings. Amidst orchestrated chaos, he’s a calming presence.
